  • When are the admissions notified?

> Admissions are notified in all major newspapers all over the country. You can also visit the university website for details.

 

  • Who can apply for the MA Communication Programme?

> The MA Communication programme is open to a graduate in any field with an aptitude & interest in the subject. The keywords are aptitude & interest. Students with a UG certificate in Journalism are, of course, more than welcome!

 

  • What are the specialisations offered in the MA Communication programme?

> The MA Communication programme offers specialisations in four areas: Television & Radio, Communication & Media Studies, and Print Journalism & New Media. Students need to specify their area of interest right at the time of filling in the application. However, the specialisation offered to you will depend on your merit.

 

  • What is the total intake for MA (Communication)?

>  The total intake is 40 seats- 15 seats for Television & Radio, 15 for Print Journalism & New Media & 10 seats for Communication & Media Studies.

 

  • Are the specialisations offered right from the first semester?

> Eight core courses, four in each semester are offered in the first two semesters to all the 40 students. You specialise in the chosen area in the last two semesters.

 

  • What am I expected to do during the 2-year programme?

> The two-year programme is a rigorous one with lots of activities. You are expected to attend classes regularly. No part-time jobs please. Guest lectures, shooting & editing, audio recordings, seminars, research papers, film screenings, publishing a lab newspaper regularly, participating in film festivals are among a few things that you do during the two years. All these, besides the regular classes of course! Also, when the campus radio goes on air, you will also actively participate in the running of the radio station!

 

  • What facilities does the department offer in terms of equipment, library etc?

> Check out the Facilities page for an overview. The University has a well-equipped library with all the books required for the programme. You will also receive hand-outs from faculty members either hard or soft copy.

 

  • What about internship possibilities?

> Students are required to undertake a 4-6 week internship in any of the media or related organisations in the break between the second & third semester. Students undergo an internship on approval of the department. The department also arranges for internship with various organisations. A successful & satisfactory internship programme for the said duration is a mandatory requirement for students to get their degrees.

 

  • Are there hostel facilities?

> Yes, but limited. Be prepared to make your own arrangements in case you don't get hostel accommodation. Please check the university website  for more details. Your stay in the hostel is limited to the duration of the programme (2 yrs) only.

> Admissions are normally notified  in all major newspapers all over the country. You can also visit the university website for details.
 

  • Who can apply for the Ph.D Programme?

> The Ph.D programme is open to all MA (Mass Communication & Journalism, Communication & MCJ) graduates with NET (JRF) qualification. The full-time programme requires students to stay on the campus and complete their research within five years. Part-time students, who are residents of Hyderabad-Secunderabad need to produce a residence certificate.
 

  • What is the duration of the Ph.D Programme?

> Five years. The department normally doesn't encourage you to extend the time limit unless the reasons are beyond your control. 
 

  • What am I expected to do during the Ph.D programme?

> Simple. Concentrate on your Ph.D! Keep in regular touch with your guide. You will be required to complete a 12-credit mandatory course work spread over two semesters before you take up actual research on Ph.D. You will be expected to report your progress to a Doctoral Review Committee once every semester. The DRC certifies your progress. Besides pursuing your own research, you get opportunities to involve yourself in cutting-edge research being conducted by faculty members. This gives you rich experience. You may also be asked to handle a few classes of the core courses, help faculty members with co-ordinating their classroom sessions, events etc. 
 

  • What facilities does the department offer in terms of library etc?

> The university library is well-stacked. However, if you need a book that isn't in the library, the department will recommend it immediately. Faculty members also share their reading material with research scholars. 


  • Are there hostel facilities?

> Yes, but limited. Be prepared to make your own arrangements in case you don't get hostel accommodation. Please check the university website for more details. Your stay in the hostel is limited to the duration of the programme (5 yrs) only.
